As we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. It is vital that we share the life, the people, the places, the many things that play a significant part of those early years leading up to and the birth of our Savior.
We start at the Place of Nazareth where Jesus lived. “Can anything good come from there?” (John 1:46). That’s what the disciple Nathanael said when he heard that Jesus came from Nazareth. One of the twelve disciples of Jesus. Nathanael didn’t think much of Jesus at first. “Nazareth!” exclaimed Nathanael, after the disciple Philip told him where Jesus came from. “Can anything good come from there?
Some of us came from a places or people we would soon rather forget. It haunts us and we ask ourselves can I amount anything, can I accomplish anything good. “Yes you can!”
You see Nathanael’s opinion changed when he met Jesus because Jesus said he saw Nathanael sitting under a fig tree before Phillip arrived. Astonished, Nathanael declared that Jesus was God’s Son.
It was not that Nazareth was a completely bad place the reason Nathanael said what he said. It’s that it was hardly a town at all–just a dip of a town, literally. Nazareth was hidden in a large dip eroded into a ridge off the beaten trail. In Jesus’ day, it didn’t measure more than nine hundred by two hundred yards–and most of that was empty fields for farming or grazing.
The closest the Old Testament comes to mentioning Nazareth is in a prophecy that must have seemed absolutely unrelated to Jesus’ hometown: “Out of the stump of David’s family (Jesse which was the Father of King David) will grow a shoot–yes, a new Branch bearing fruit from the old root” (Isaiah 11:1).
Nazareth seems to come from the Hebrew word that means branch or shoot.
Keep this in mind. We all trace back to someone and something as we try and understand why we are here and what our purpose is. Our source and foundation is God. When Samuel came to Jesse than to anoint Jesse Son, God sent Him to anoint David which started the relation to Jesus. All things in God happen for a reason, you being born is for a reason. Find out what that reason is.
Jesus in John 1:47 – Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, “behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!” Nathanael said to Him, “How do You know me?”
We are attached to some one, and our history started some where. You will see as we go forward the people that played the role in the coming of Christ Jesus, who through it all came to earth to save us.
Be of good cheer!
God Bless and remember who we are celebrating and why.
